While there are many honest companies giving away vacations to promote their brands, there are also scams designed to collect personal information or trick people into paying money they shouldn't.
When I won my free getaway to Lake Arrowhead, I was excited, but I was also skeptical. Receiving an email saying you've won a free vacation naturally makes you wonder if it's too good to be true. That's normal.

I've learned that your instincts are often one of your best tools.
If a website looks poorly designed, contains obvious spelling mistakes, makes unrealistic promises, or pressures you to act immediately, it's worth taking a step back. There are plenty of legitimate travel giveaways available, so there's no reason to take unnecessary risks.
If something feels off, I simply move on to the next opportunity.
